Compilation of Errors and How to Fix Them

Last Updated: 12/2
Restart router/modem

Related Errors: Latency, lag, random disconnects
Unplug it and wait, then reconnect. Review error

Turn off Firewall

Related Errors: Latency, lag, random disconnects, problems joining servers
Via your Control Panel you will find Firewall settings to turn it off
Control panel will not fully disable Windows Firewall: In Windows 7, you need to open up the start/metro ui and search "Windows Firewall with advanced security", click properties on the right and go into each tab (apart from the last one on the right) and hit disable.
In Windows 8, in metro type mmc, select mmc.exe > ctrl+m >scroll down on right to windows firewall with advanced security > add > local computer > finish > double click, and do the properties like the windows 7 steps above.

Try Different Internet Browsers for Battlelog

Related Errors: Problems joining servers, ping not appearing, random disconnects, generic Battleog issues

Run Battlefield 4 as Administrator

Related Errors: Problems launching game, joining servers, random crashing
Right-click the game executable or shortcut and select "Run as administrator".

Open Ports for Battlefield 4:

Related Errors: Problems joining servers, long loading screens, random disconnects, latency, lag

If you are playing on PC, please enable the following online ports on your connection:

   UDP: 3659, 14000-14016, 22990-23006, 25200-25300

If you are playing on PS3, please enable the following online ports on your connection:

   TCP: 80, 443, 9988, 10000-10100, 17502, 42127

   UDP: 3659, 14000-14016

If you are playing on Xbox 360, please enable the following online ports on your connection:

   TCP: 53, 88, 3074

Flush DNS and Renew IP

Related Errors: Latency, lag, problems joining servers, random disonnects
Open Start menu. Type "cmd". Right click on it and select, "Run as Administrator". You will know you are in the correct cmd.exe if it says, "C:\Windows\system32" instead of "C:\Windows\YourComputerName". With the command box open, type the following commands:
   "ipconfig /release"
   "ipconfig /renew"
   "ipconfig /flushdns"
   "ipconfig /registerdns"
   "netsh winsock reset"

Manually Update Punkbuster

Related Errors: Long loading screens, random disconnects
   http://www.punkbuster.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

Ensure Battlefield 4 is running in x64

Related Errors: Random crashing, memory issues, stuttering or chunking
Go to Origin. Click on Battlefield 4's information icon (the "i"). Click Game Properties. Then ensure "Launch this game as x64"

Tweak in-Game Video Settings to Help with FPS

Try experimenting with settings at Low through Ultra. Some people have actually found better performance in un-expected settings like Ultra.
Turn on Borderless Window (In Game Options > Video) This does not seem to help everyone, but it's worth experimenting with for any pertinent issues.
Turn down Resolution Scale to 0%

Update Direct X

Related Errors: Problems launching game, random crashing, sporadic FPS drops or spikes

In Windows, Go to Program Files (x86) -> Origin games -> Battlefield 4 -> _installer -> directtx-> redist Scroll down and find an application called DXSETUP and double click to run it. It will install the files from Microsoft.

Also, changing the overall graphics quality of Direct X can help resolve some issues as well: Go to Documents and search Battlefield 4 -> Open PROSAVE_profile in a text or notepad -> Search "Render.OverallGraphicsQuality" and change the following numerical value to "0" this can be changed at anytime and does no harm to your computer -> Save

Disable Origin in Game

Related Errors: Direct X errors, random crashing, issues joining servers
In Origin, click "Origin" at the top > Application Settings > Origin in Game > Un-check "Enable Origin in Game"

To Resolve CPU Spikes - Un-park Cores or Try Editing BIOS

This can be done with the following utility:

   Hotfix from Windows:

You can also try editing your BIOS. I have a FX-6100 AMD CPU. This is what I did:

   Advanced BIOS Features >
   CPU Control Set to Manual
One Core per Compute Unit Disabled
   CPU Cores 1-4 Enabled
   CPU Cores 5-6 Disabled

Many others have found success by simply Enabling One Core per Compute Unit. I have yet to really find a consistency with this solution so I suggest caution and disclaim any blame. You risk editing your BIOS on your own terms. Though, it has significantly improved my game.
Random Crashing - Heat Related Issue

While random crashing can be the result of many things, it is important to eliminate over-heating as the culprit. Download HW Monitor and watch your temperature levels carefully for possible anomalies:

If over-heating is the issue, consider buying a new heat sink, fans, or new case to properly cool your system. Often it is the case that people do not upgrade their heat sink and the computer crashes (in general) due to overheating.

Update for AMD FX, AMD Opteron 4200, AMD Opteron 6200, or AMD Bulldozer series

Game locks with looping sound and you need to kill the process via the task manager.

There is no clear cut workaround, but here is a list of things that have helped in some instances.
Nvidia – Reverting to older drivers - GTX 690 - 331.65 crashed non-stop. 331.40 beta from sept and in 3 hrs not one crash. Another player mentioned that rolling back to 331.58 stopped his crashes.
   Setting In-game audio to headphones.
Disabling NVIDIA High Definition Audio (Single Player)
Run as administrator (for BF4 and BF4x86). You could also try changing security permissions on the origin games folder giving users full control instead of just read
Nvidia Control Panel > Configure Surround > PhysX > PhysX settings > select your graphics card. Then Origin > Repair Install, played all day without crashing. Another confirmation and another.

Game crashed showing a black screen and only the cursor after deployment of the soldier

Apparently, hitting more than once the deploy button, clicking twice or more for instance, triggers the crash. Hit only once the deploy button. You should be ok, it works every time in my case. Confirmed by another player

DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with "DxGi_error_Device_Hung" / Vram memory filling up

Lowering settings from ultra/high to medium in x64 or low in x86 fixes the issue, always happening when Vram fills up to about 1.6 GB of VRAM.DirectX updates/fixes mentioned did not help.
Stopping overclocking on Video card - SP only (e.g. GTX460)

Set Game Time Max Variable Fps

Find your your Orgin games folder, the path should look similar to this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4 Inside the BF4 folder right click and choose new>text document. Save it as user.cfg If it saves it as user.cfg.txt then you need to change your computer settings to allow you to alter file types. To do this: Open your control panel, Search Folder Options, Click folder options and then go to the view tab, Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types. Now go back to the BF4 folder and rename user.cfg.txt to user.cfg You will get a message about changing file types being dangerous or something along those lines. Just push Ok. Now right click on the user.cfg file. Chose edit. It should open up a notepad window. Now insert GameTime.MaxVariableFps 62 into the notepad and push ctrl+s or click file>save. Open up BF4 and you should be good to go! :)

Set Network Smoothing to 0%

Press Escape during gameplay. Go to gameplay settings. Set "Network Smoothing" to 0%

ERROR Could not communicate with BF4. Please use the Task Manager to close it down.

Credit to /u/Qahlel for this one

Right click to your desktop. Click to new and select Text Document.
Rename the new file as Force-Close-BF4.bat (or whatever you wish but the extension must be .bat)
Right click to your file and choose edit and write the following line and save: taskkill /f /im bf4.exe

Whenever Battlelog asks you to shutdown bf4.exe (or your want to fast-rage-quit) you just need to execute this file and it's done. If you can't see the extension of your files go to Control Panel and open Folder Options. In View tab remove tick from Hide extensions for known file types. You can quickly minimize all active windows in windows by clicking windows key + d (whether you have windows key on your keyboard or not depends on your keyboard)
